It is caused by the perception that men are generally more equipped, skilled and able to handle challenges that come with additional obligations as compared to the female colleagues in same institution.

Political influences and Ethnic background of teachers. Nepotism and tribalism creates a tendency in people that makes them favor others that they have a common cultural background with. This indicates that teachers who shares cultural origins with majority of the management personnel of a school stand a better chance of being promoted than others of other ethnic backgrounds.
